On Sunday 11 September, the second edition of the Antwerp Marathon will take place in the city centre of Antwerp. In addition to the full marathon, runners can also opt for a half marathon or relay marathon. The participants will be presented with a fast course along the highlights of the city. Registration is now open.

The second edition of the Antwerp Marathon will be a morning marathon as was announced earlier. However, the concept remains unchanged. The participants run along famous Antwerp landmarks and there will be entertainment along the route at every mile. The Port Authority House, Boerentoren, Palace of Justice, Central Station and the beautiful passage along the Grote Markt will all feature on Sunday 11 September.

New to the marathon and relay marathon course is a passage through the Schoonselhof, the well-known cemetery where Hendrik Conscience was given his final resting place. Those who choose the half marathon can enjoy the splendour of the gardens of the Palace of Justice. The full, renewed course will be announced soon. It promises to be a fast course with fewer turns than last year. The area around the MAS remains the start and finish zone of the Antwerp Marathon.

Annick De Ridder, chairman Port of Antwerp-Bruges: “As a frequent runner, I am of course very pleased that Port of Antwerp-Bruges is the main sponsor of this wonderful race and that the course passes the Port Authority House. In this way, we are showcasing both the city and the port for the Flemish and international audience in a unique and sporty way. Just like last year, I will be attend in running gear for this marathon!”

Peter Wouters, Councillor for Sport: “In Antwerp we serve a copious and varied running menu of excellent quality all year round. And the Antwerp Marathon is and remains an absolute top dish, even if a few ingredients change. So be sure to register and work towards 11 September at your own pace. Good preparation is everything. Do you have trouble getting started? Let our Antwerp athletics clubs take you in tow. They offer running coaching tailored to the needs of the novice or experienced runner. Success guaranteed!”
